Conservation denotes the percentage of residues that match that of the rCRS among selected species. A query variant is depicted in isolation (i.e., other variants in a test sequence are not shown) and is flanked by rCRS reference for clarity.
- For the 13 protein-coding loci, amino acid alignments are shown in their transcribed orientation. All but ND6 are read from the 'top' or 'light' (L-) strand; ND6 is read from the reverse complement (the 'bottom' or 'heavy' (H-) strand of the DNA).
- For the 22 tRNA and 2 rRNA loci, nucleotide alignments are shown. The majority are read from the L-strand; 8 tRNAs (Q, A, N, C, Y, S1, E, and P) are read in reverse orientation from the complementary H-strand. However, by convention all variants are reported using the light strand nucleotides for comparison with the rCRS and are shown here.
- fs = frameshift. For the display of the downstream sequence of the mutation site, the wildtype rCRS sequence is used, and translated if needed.
